Julian Coryell Duality 1997 Album Review Seems talent must run in the Coryell family. Like his fathe, Larrry Coryell, Julian Coryell is a talented guitarist, but his style on Duality is more in the smooth jazz vein than his dad's. That's not to say Duality suffers from the sameness of much of what one would hear on jazz radio; it is engaging, mellow for the most part, but spirited in its way. Young Coryell obviously knows his way around his axe, but there's little grandstanding here. Indeed, Coryell the songwriter is nearly as impressive as Coryell the player, and his rather eclectic taste in covers (Bob Dylan, Steely Dan, Elvis Costello, Joni Mitchell) is uniformly excellent as well.
