Musique was one of the rare "studio groups" that actually became a real group. The focus, brains and drive behind the concept was superstar Patrick Adams. Adams had already achieved success before the idea of 1978's "Keep On Jumpin' " album.

As the demand for new disco music grew, labels and producers alike found it harder to come up with new acts. As a way to satisfy demand studio musicians and singers were employed to flesh out concepts that creative producers came up with. This resulted in what I call the second wave of disco (producer-driven era). The first was the soul/r&b acts from the beginning of the era. The third era was the downfall era (when everyone and their grandmother released disco tracks). As part of the second wave of disco Adams employed singers Jocelyn Brown (with whom he would often use), Gina Tharps, Angela Howell and the multi-talented Christine Wiltshire plus over a dozen of New York's best session players for his concept of Musique.

When released it shot quickly to the top of the charts, "Keep On Jumpin's" success caught all involved off guard.

The Prelude Records release boasted only four tracks, "Summer Love" was presented in two forms. The first 12" single was a remix of "In The Bush" by Francois K. backed with the album version of "Keep On Jumpin'." This high energy track with it's lewd lyrics quickly became a classic and was inescapable in the summer of 1978. With many irons in the fire keeping Adams busy and sales of the 12" single and album brisk he rode the crest well into 1979. To milk the last few drops of success (and money) from the album Francois K. was brought in to remix the second 12" single of "Keep On Jumpin'." This time it was backed with the previous remix of "In The Bush." It worked and gave the tracks and the album extended shelf life well into 1979.

Later that year it was apparent that Adams needed to release another Musique album and the demand for personal appearances was there. So Mary Seymour, Denise Edwards and Gina Taylor were recruited to be Musique. Unlike the first album that had some bimbo models cavorting in the studio, the second release showed the real singers as glamourous ladies in their finest disco attire. "Musique 2" was different in many ways. First it was released as a 2-12" singles DJ package, so there was to be no remixed single 12"-ers. Secondly Christine Wiltshire was given more of an active role in the creation of the overall product. She co-wrote one track, co-produced two tracks and did all the vocal arrangements. Once again the album featured only four tracks. But unlike the first album this one only produced one big hit, "Love Massage." Still it allowed Mary, Denise and Gina to shine and to make numerous appearances, giving unsuspecting fans a taste of Musique.

The following year disco collapsed, sending the girls back into obscurity. Adams however, like most of the producers from the disco-era, survived and even thrived afterwards. He went on to lend his magical talents to a wide variety of artists including Melba Moore, Salt 'N' Pepa, Eric B. Rakim and Jocelyn Brown amongst others. The now 55 year old producer is still very active today.
