Andrea True Connection

Изображение

Andrea True Born July 26, 1943 in Nashville, Tennessee. Andrea as a young girl often dreamed of being an actress. Growing up in the "bible belt" of America was not the place to be for an aspiring actress. During the late 1960's True relocated to New York City to pursue a career in acting.

Outside of work as an extra in a handful of mainstream films, she enjoyed little success; eventually, she was forced to turn to X-rated material. Beginning in 1970 with "Dance Of Love" Andrea had found her niche. During her early days she was sometimes billed as: Inger Kissen, Singh Low or Andrea Travis.

Between 1970 and 1975 she had racked up an impressive 14 film roles and had established herself as a "star" in the adult entertainment business. Remember this is in the days before video taped cassettes and wide stream acceptance of adult entertainers as some what legitimate talents.

In 1975 while working in Jamaica, Andrea had the misfortune of getting paid the day before a goverment imposed ban on taking money out of Jamaica. Frustrated and loaded with cash Andrea made frantic calls to friends in New York. Not wishing to lose her hard earned money it was decided that by making a recording that it at least wouldn't be left behind. Producer Gregg Diamond flew into Jamaica and in a hastily thrown together session he wrote and she sang "More, More, More." The actual vocal track heard on the release was what Andrea thought was a test take. "I was tired and thought we were just getting levels and lining up the tracks...I always thought I could have done it better" claimed Andrea.

Upon his return to New York, Gregg took the raw tape to Tom Moulten for a listen. Tom liked what he heard, "It had a raw amateur sound but I sensed something was there so I agreed to do the mix." The Tom Moulten mix was released on a promotional-only 12" single to clubs and the song took off. It eventually reached number four on Billboards Top Forty charts in the spring of 1976.

With the unexpected success of the song True and Diamond scrambled to put together an album. He wrote four new songs that they recorded in New York. The release of the album, "More, More, More" saw Andrea dominate the club charts for the entire summer with "Party Line," "Call Me," and "Fill Me Up (Heart To Heart)." During 1976 Andrea continued her "film" career making three more films, at a decidedly higher pay scale.

By 1977 True put her film career on-hold to concentrate on touring and recording her second (and last) album. Gregg Diamond began the project by writing and producing her second 12" single "N.Y. You Got Me Dancing." This was yet another club smash, but only reached number twenty seven on the Top Forty chart.

At this point, we're not really sure why, Gregg bowed out of the project and up and coming producer/songwriter and future disco star Michael Zager was brought in to help complete the project. Andrea over extending herself wrote and produced the title track for herself, and one additional cut was produced by Elliot Apter and Mark Mitchman.

"White Witch" lacked the continuity and cohesiveness of her first effort, perhaps due to the mixture of so many producers? However one more club hit followed with "What's Your Name, What's Your Number," released on a commercial 12" single. I'm sure that the single sold more than the actual album. This track failed to crack the Top Forty and her contract with Buddah Records was cancelled.

By 1978 Andrea was back in adult films churning out two for the year. But the business was not kind to someone who was well into their 30's and offers were scarce.

1979 saw a complete year without any work, not that True minded, she had become bored with the whole industry at this point.

In 1980 she did her last film, "Summer Session". And quietly faded back into the unknown.
